Ask Jeeves Inc., a search engine firm, reported $2 million in net income during fourth quarter 2002, up from $1.4 million in fourth quarter 2001. The Emeryville, CA-based firm’s revenue rose from $15.4 million to $22.7 million during the same period.
For all of 2002, the firm’s net loss was slashed from $425.3 million a year ago to $21 million. Much of the 2001 loss was generated from one-time charges of $355.3 million, which consisted of writing off goodwill from acquisitions. During 2002 Ask Jeeves generated $74.1 million, up from $66.6 million. The quarter and the year ended Dec. 31.
Ask Jeeves expects that its 2003 revenue will jump to $100 million, due to increased traffic and changes to its unit pricing. Ask Jeeves’ revenue comes primarily from sales of advertising products and paid listings.
